This video is a joint production between American and Russian childbirth activists and is designed to showcase the unique approach some parents in Russia are taking towards humanising birth in their country. We see a series of births underwater, some in transparent tubs and others in the warm waters of an inland lake. In many cases the women catch their own babies, with the midwives staying at a respectful distance, and in all cases the woman is lovingly supported by friends and in some cases, other siblings. The scenes at the lake are amazing and demonstrate both the innate capabilities of the women and the spirituality of the birth process. This video will definitely widen your viewpoint about what is possible during birth, and 50% of all profits are being returned to Russia for the development of a midwifery school and parent training centre.
