Water Babies

This program explores the waterbirth experience in Ostend, where over 1700 women have given birth under water. We see women learning to relax in the water during their pregnancies and hear from the doctors and midwives in the unit about their approach. A number of births are shown, in a special transparent tub (now replaced by a more conventional pool) that offers a unique window on birth: we see the babies emerge unaided, swimming and floating peacefully before being gently lifted from the water; a remarkable breech birth and the arrival of twins.
