Without doubt this is one of the best active birth DVDs available. Made in The Netherlands, with an English commentary, it shows the birth of a first baby in a home setting. It is a long labour and we hear the mother's and the midwife's comments about the disappointment at the slow progress, the suggestions to seek peace and privacy in the shower and the discussion about positions for comfort. The mother is restless in second stage, moving around, trying several birth positions. Hot packs are used to relieve perineal pain. The mother's pushing efforts are clearly shown, and we see her giving birth in a squatting position. Early breastfeeding is clearly shown. The midwife stitches a small tear and the baby is bathed by the mother. This is a wonderful DVD, touching, reassuring and realistic.
