Every woman expecting a baby has the right to full and accurate information concerning the choices and options in maternity care available to her. Making decisions, solving problems, developing confidence and trust in innate birthing abilities, learning about resources and promoting personal flexibility are all skills needed by parents raising children. The childbirth educator has a vital role in both the provision of information to parents during pregnancy, and in enabling parents to develop their skills. Devising effective educational programs, based on client needs and using a variety of teaching and presentation strategies is central to the approach of the professional childbirth educator.
