Caroline Flint and Mavis Kirkham

This afternoon I am meeting up in Perth, WA, with Caroline Flint and Mavis Kirkham, the overseas guests who are speakers on the Future Birth program. I know Caroline very well, having spent many hours with her in the UK, but this will be the first chance I have had to get to know Mavis better. We have appeared on several Conference programs together, but have not really become well acquainted.

These touring parties are always a lot of fun because we get to travel together and share our thoughts on the program, the participants, the issues and of course, midwifery. We also chuckle over the evaluations that everyone fills in at the end of the day, as we wing out way to the next destination.

Mavis has commented that the Managing Midwifery program that has become an annual event in Australia would be a valuable for UK .managers as well. From my observations and the feedback I receive from workshops participants in the UK, I think she is right. During this trip I will be picking her brains on the kinds of topics that she feels would be useful on such a program, with a view to scheduling such a workshop for later in the year. Will keep you posted.
